Southern Charm Savannah's Ashley Borders Clears Up Exactly What She Does for a Living

The #SouthernCharmSAV fashionista clapped back at those who question her career.

This season of Southern Charm Savannah was full of drama, and some of the fiercest arguments surrounded Ashley Borders and her career. To some of the Savannah Charmers, it seemed as though Ashley had been flaunting her jet-setting life as a stylist while hiding the fact that she worked at the airport.

Ashley cleared up the confusion during Catherine Cooper's dinner party this season, saying that she does work at the airport twice a week, a job that she still holds today as she also focuses on her styling career, the Southern Charm Savannah fashionista recently confirmed to The Daily Dish. "Yes, I travel all over the world with my clients working. My job with Delta is completely separate. It has nothing to do with my styling career. That’s so that [my son] Izzy and I can see the world," she told The Daily Dish. "And that’s my favorite thing to do, and so it’s amazing that — it’s like having your private plane. We’re flying standby, but, like, just go somewhere. We fly First Class to Europe to have dinner. We literally do that sometimes. That’s what allows us to do that. It’s completely separate from my styling career. It’s just an added bonus of life."

In fact, Ashley has been making her fashion dreams come true for years, starting her first fashion line, House of Borders, when she was 16. The Savannah Charmer continued to work on her label all throughout college, which is when her evening wear collection was sported by Kate Middleton in a student fashion show at the University of St. Andrews — you know, the one that her future husband, Prince William, spotted her in. "It was really cool, I mean like, it was a fun time. I was in college, and it was fun to get to St. Andrews and make a collection of clothing and have my first big fashion show," Ashley said. "So it just happened that Kate Middleton was one of my models that night."

Ashley then switched her focus to swimwear and cover-ups with her Bedouin line. "I just reposted the website because everyone was giving me crap about not doing design. So I was like, here it is," Ashley said of Southern Charm Savannah fans. "But I don’t mass-manufacture that anymore, because when I moved back to the States, my focus came towards helping Dennis [her husband] start his law career and us being in the same city to support Izzy. So it was much more difficult for me to spend the money and fly overseas to my factories and take care of that. So then I started doing corporate styling and working as a fashion editor at a magazine, and I had lots of private clients."

Ashley said that she has worked with celebrity clients on movies, as well as some personal styling in Los Angeles. She has also designed everything from a young actress' red carpet look inspired by breast cancer awareness to uniforms for a company in France. She has also served as creative director for South Magazine. "My favorite is doing fashion editorials, though. I love it, and that’s the reason I loved working at the magazine so much was that I got to be creative and push the boundaries a little bit, because in the South, it’s also you can only go so far," she said. "So I got to do some shoots that were really fun and cool."

But Ashley's fashion career hasn't always been glamorous. "When I started working as a stylist in Dubai, just to help pay the bills, I swept floors, I held garments, steamed anything," she said. "You just do whatever you have to, and I’ve graduated from some of the best schools in the world with business degrees."

Ashley has more recently started her Lovelution T-shirt line, which employs individuals with developmental disabilities who design and screen print the shirts. The money raised from the sale of the shirts then goes back to help promote programs to help support people with developmental disabilities. She also works with Goodwill to teach people how to repurpose garments and cut down on waste.

As if Ashley wasn't busy enough, she'll also be appearing in her first Hollywood film later this year, An LA Minute, starring Gabriel Byrne. So remember when Ashley wore that red football jersey that said "Hustle" on the back to the Savannah Charmers' Georgia-Florida day festivities? Clearly, she has taken that sentiment to heart, as far as her career is concerned. "Yeah, that’s like my motto," she said. "I’m hustlin' it."

Yes, the hustle is real for Ashley. See it in action, below.
