Practically Every Celebrity Is Wearing These Intentionally-Dirty Sneakers

They're expensive and they're a little bit dirty and we want them BAD.

If you tend to pay attention to every last detail of a celebrity’s outfit — all the way down to their sneakers — then you’ve noticed A-listers like Selena Gomez, Mandy Moore, Olivia Wilde and many, many others are wearing a sneaker with a big star emblazoned on the side. Like, practically every celebrity (Hillary Duff! Rosie Hungtington-Whiteley! Megan Fox! Olivia Palermo!) has at some point been spotted wearing a version of this shoe — sometimes in a floral print, sometimes with a thick glittery sparkle, sometimes as a high-top.

Who’s the maker? Golden Goose. Helmed by an adorable Italian couple for nearly two decades, the luxury brand charges a pretty penny for sneakers that, if we’re being delicate, can be described as distressed. If we’re being a bit more critical, we’ll call them scuffed and dirty.

I consider myself a hip, on-trend person. But when I first started perusing the Golden Goose collection, I was admittedly mystified. I felt like I was in the “Derelicte” trash-fashion spoof from Zoolander. I heard my grandpa’s voice asking me why I would pay for jeans that are ripped. I showed them to a friend and she gasped, saying, “They cost HOW much?”

That’s right, kids, these sneaks ain’t cheap. Typically priced between $400 and $600, Golden Goose sneakers come in hundreds of styles, patterns and materials and they’re meant to be an homage to the West Coast’s skate board culture. Read: They’re dingy, but in a really authentic, badass way that has me WANTING them.

Yup, I’m throwing caution to the wind and have embraced the scuff marks and slight tears, because the glitter, leather, leopard print fur and rhinestones are freaking worth it. These sneakers are statement makers. Pair them with jeans and a tee and your outfit is done. Wear them to the park with your kids and you’re automatically the coolest mom in the sandbox. Sport them to work and your boss will be hard pressed to tell you your shoes aren’t appropriate when they cost $500. Golden Goose sneaks are definitely a splurge, but one that you’ll be wearing (and loving) for years to come.
